Useful Questions

Before you contact us thinking through the following aspects will be useful:
  • How big does my structure need to be, does it need to fit in a particular place, or accommodate a minimum number of people?
  • How often will I use my Structure, where will I store it and how will I transport it if required?
  • Would it be useful to extend the structure at a later date?
  • Are there any site specific issues that might affect the design, for example is it a windy site, is it grassy or hard surface, is it sloppy or flat, does it need to blend in or stand out?

Some frequently asked questions!

Does my structure need to be Flame retardant for safety or legal requirements?

Legally, yes if your structure is to be used as a public space or at a public event, and for safety reasons we would recommend it for in most situations.

We use regentex 12 wherever possible, simply because it’s the best canvas for most designs we have ever found. It is flame retardant, tested to BS7837:1996 and impregnated with anti-rot and waterproofing agents.

Do I need a flooring solution?

We can build a custom built deck for the structure to sit on if in a permanent location, or provide groundsheets, matting etc.

Canvas or Plastic coated?

We use canvas for most of the structures we make. Both material types have pros and cons

In our opinion canvas looks better, feels better and creates structures of quality that breathe when it is hot. Canvas is harder to clean than pvc coated fabrics but if well looked after can last a long time. I have repaired a canvas tent from 1953 that still works well. To protect your structure it should be reproofed every 3-5 years. We recommend using sand or green canvas where possible as these colours mark less easily than the white cloth.

Pvc coated fabrics are easier to wash but are not UV stable and will degrade over time depending on the quality of material used. For a shorter lifecycle they are easier to maintain, but in our opinion don’t provide the same quality look and feel as canvas. We can use some plasticised fabrics for smaller structures but if what you really need is a large plastic marquee we will recommend another supplier.
